Great articles. A bargain. The best I have seen for some time!!
Been an avid reader of NR for almost a decade and great way of reading the magazine without printing all that paper whenever I want to read it on the bus or something.
Largely a PDF of the print edition but with overlayed features like a table of contents and search etc. Not the wsj but great rendering and everything you need to get your lilleks, steyn, long, goldberg and other interesting perspectives on the go.
I dont have a problem with the "text" view / button...gives me two reading options. Would be nice to see all the library at once, but thats not such a big deal. Otherwise, it works fine.
Some bad moments
There is now no longer any easy way to access an article from the table of contents. The whatever-its-called bar at the bottom has numbers that do not correspond to the magazine page numbers (off by 2, I think).
The earlier version was much better. You should have fixed the minor bugs and left the rest alone. Is there any way to revert?
To others: If you have not updated, dont!
I love the National Review, and would give it ten stars if i could, but ever since the app was updated, it doesnt open properly. All i get is a black screen! Please fix it, because i cant wait to read the new issue.
National Review, an excellent journal of sensible, informed opinion and analysis, just completely revamped its app. The result is a disaster. The biggest disappointments are the inability to view all of the covers at a time, making it impossible to see recent issues at a glance, and the horrid "text" feature, which unlike the very nice previous versions opens a text window in the bottom half of the screen. Who thought that was a good idea? Probably the pajama boy NR has recently been lambasting. The positive: the app is less unusable than the current iteration of the NR website. Whoever designed that monstrosity clearly never tried to search for a specific article on it!
The "Text" view uses only 3/4 of the screen as text, wasting precious real estate.
Guys, the interface of this app is bad. I shouldnt need to swipe 20 times to find the issue I want. Viewing the issue is no different from reading the kindle version. With your own app, you have the ability to create a much richer experience. Look at the new yorker app. I like your magazine, but I cant recommend this app.
You are now greeted with a HUGE banner add for a cruise, and an incredibly small single icon representing all issues. No grid, no list, no easy way to explore issues.
This is the worst magazine app available in 2016, possibly the worst app in general.
The most infuriating thing is that the app was decent before they updated it, so they intentionally made it into the useless pos it is today.
Tragic.
